Obituary for Steve J. Iatrou

Steve J.  Iatrou
Clinton-Steve J. Iatrou, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2022 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Georgia (Chiamis) Iatrou; their children & spouses, Angela Simon & Erik of Southborough; Katherine Matrundola & Andrew of Winchester; Joanne Souza & James of Clinton; and Peter Iatrou of Houston, TX; 8 adoring grandchildren: Korinna, Xander, and Nathan Simon, Stephanie, John, and Andrea Matrundola, Lexa and Toni Souza. He leaves his siblings, Hariklia Kasiotis and Nikos Iatrou & wife Yiota, all of Greece; nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends. He is pre-deceased by siblings Kathy Thomopoulos and Anthony Iatrou.
Steve was born in Loganiko, Greece, son of the late John & Angela (Bouzanis) Iatrou. Following primary studies, he proudly served his nation in the Hellenic Army and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. On September 18, 1962 Steve arrived to Ellis Island aboard the S.S. Olympia and emigrated to Clinton, where he would soon meet his future wife Georgia and together raise their family. He began his professional career at Wovencraft and later joined Nylon Products and Nypro, Inc., from where he would ultimately retire as a Quality Control Supervisor after 25 years of employment. Steve was a man of great faith and a devout member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Clinton, serving as Church President for many years and long-time member of the Order of AHEPA. Among Steve’s many hobbies and interests, he enjoyed playing golf, cards, bowling, shooting pool, watching wrestling, traveling, and tending to his vegetable gardens. Above all, he was a proud patriarch who was happiest in the company of his family. A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 10, 2022 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 132 School St., Clinton, with burial to follow in Reservoir Pines Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Steve Iatrou to: American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037.
