Obituary for James A. Hunt

James A. Hunt
Bolton- James A. Hunt, 76, passed away peacefully at home with his family and sheepdog by his side on Sunday, May 30, 2021.
Son of the late John & Veronica (Deffely) Hunt, Jim was raised in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School Class of 1963.  He achieved his undergraduate degree from Bridgewater State Teacher's College and his Master of Education degree from Northeastern University.  Mr. Hunt began his professional career teaching Math and Science at the Hale School in Stow where he later became an administrator serving as School Principal. Students there fondly remember Mr. Hunt as a firm but fun teacher.  James went on to serve in special administration roles and as Principal for numerous public school systems throughout Massachusetts including Westford, Groton, Framingham, Needham, Ayer and Freetown- Lakeville before ultimately retiring from the Goffstown, NH Public School System, after 45 years.  Widely respected in the field of Education, Mr. Hunt held numerous memberships and affiliations, notably with Outward Bound, Kappa Delta Phi- with whom he enjoyed meeting monthly for lunches with the “Old Crows,” and as a former member on the Board of Directors for the Discovery Museum in Acton.  Jim was passionate about the outdoors. He enjoyed kayaking rivers and the ocean, followed by waterfront dinners. He enjoyed skiing, hiking, and tending to his vegetable garden.  He loved walking his sheepdogs, taking his grandchildren for ice cream and trips to Cape Cod. James was happiest hosting family and friends at home with cookouts, cocktails, stories, jokes and fire-pits. These memories will be cherished and warmly held by all who knew him.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Pamela (Pollino) Hunt; their children- Heather Hunt of Atkinson, NH; Holly Scott and husband Greg of North Andover; Scott Hunt and Jackie Panek of Ipswich; and six adoring grandchildren- Shealyn, Brynn, Wyatt, and Ty Scott, and Charlotte and Kate Meehan.  He leaves his siblings Marie Pellerin of Port Charlotte, FL and Charles Hunt and wife Cindy of Waltham; sister-in-law Doris Hunt of Orlando, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues and friends.  James was pre-deceased by his sister, June Luck, of Princeton, NJ; and brother, John “Jack” Hunt of Orlando, FL. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at St. Theresa, the Little Flower Church, 15 Still River Rd., Harvard. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of James A.
