Obituary for Elmer M. Wheeler

Elmer M. Wheeler
Berlin-Elmer M. Wheeler, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2022. He is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Ballou of Vestal, NY; and Edith Feeney of Deltona, FL; generations of nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends. He is pre-deceased by siblings, Arthur Wheeler, Barbara Cavanagh, and Lillian Golding.
Elmer was born in Williamsburg, MA, son of the late Orin & Myrtle (Lewis) Wheeler. Hard work, common sense, honesty, and integrity were instilled at a young age on the family dairy farm in West Central, Maine. After marrying the love of his life, Mary (Harding) Wheeler, the couple found a plot of land and their paradise in Berlin, Massachusetts, where Elmer single handedly completed construction, electrical wiring and plumbing on their Danish style ranch house and homestead. He spent his entire professional career as a highly skilled carpenter for the Carpenters Union Local 475 until retiring in 2000. In addition to work on countless commercial and residential construction projects, Elmer could fix and build anything. He specialized in detailed finish carpentry and shingled his home himself just last year, stubbornly resisting all efforts of assistance. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed daily adventures, hiking Mount Pisgah, boating, and deep sea fishing. Fond family memories include trips to Maine in Elmer’s 1953 Ford Edsel, picking blueberries in his yard, and collecting maple syrup from the trees on his property. He lived practically and wasted nothing. Elmer is now reunited with his wife Mary, whom he loved deeply and provided care and comfort for until her final days. He will be dearly missed by his family and neighbors, and the old neighborhood will never be the same. A bit quieter maybe, but never the same! Funeral services will be held privately under the direction of the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elmer M. Wheeler to: Mass Audobon, Development Office, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773. Online condolences may be placed at www.philbincomeaufh.com
