Obituary for Dorothy Mary Ryan

Dorothy Mary Ryan
Clinton-Dorothy M. Ryan, 95, passed away peacefully at Marlborough Hospital on Saturday, January 13, 2018 following a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her sister Frances Ryan, lifelong best friend Marguerite Fitzgerald, and long time caretaker Mary (Fitzgerald) Gardner. She leaves several cousins and extended family, notably William H. Fitzgerald & wife Rosemary of Sterling; John K. Fitzgerald & wife Jane of Clinton; and their children; her devoted caretakers Monica, Ruth, Rachael, and Tisha.
Dorothy was born in Clinton to the late William & Katherine (Broderick) Ryan. She graduated from the Clinton High School and achieved both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education from Fitchburg State College. Miss Ryan was a dedicated career educator who taught the 6th grade at the Corcoran School for many years. Dotty impeccably cared for her home and enjoyed time in her yard tending to her prized flower garden. She enjoyed several trips to Ireland and looked forward to summers at Cape Cod. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, neighbors, students, friends, and all who had the pleasure to have known her. A special thanks to the nursing staff on Granger 2 at Marlborough Hospital and the Reservoir Nursing Center for their care, compassion, and friendship shared with Dotty in her final days. Funeral services are to be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12:30PM in St. John the Evangelist Church-Lower Chapel, 80 Union St., Clinton, and burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster.
