Clinton-Catherine J. (Anderson) Murphy, 100, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 13, 2018 at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert A. Murphy, who died in 1988. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Lamy & husband Arthur of Berlin; and generations of nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Catherine was born in Clinton to the late James and Catherine (Hamilton) Anderson. She graduated from the Clinton High School, Class of 1934 and achieved her professional degree from the Clinton Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Catherine spent her entire career as a healthcare provider and Registered Nurse at the Clinton Hospital for 44 years before retiring. In addition to her career she devoted herself to her family and caring for her nieces and nephews. She was a woman of great faith and lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Clinton. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and held membership with the Daughters of Scotia, the Clinton Hospital Guild, St. Agnes Guild, and Clinton Senior Center. Catherine was the Friendly Visitor Coordinator for Catholic Charities and a volunteer for The American Red Cross. She served as the nurse for Boys State. Honored by her community for her service and dedication, Catherine was chosen as the recipient of the 1990 Person of the Year Award. She will be forever remembered as a loving wife, sister, an aunt, a great nurse, and a dedicated friend. A Calling Hour will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9-10AM in the First Congregational Church, 34 Walnut St., Clinton, with a Funeral Service to follow at 10AM and burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
