Gardner-Derek M. Melvin, 35, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Clinton Hospital. He is survived by his children whom he adored, Kiana Shebak and Derek M. Melvin, Jr. He leaves his mother, Brenda (Merrill) Wallerstein; sister, Joanne Melvin; nieces Olivia and Charley Warner, all of Gardner; extended family, notably, Kelly Flannery; his girlfriend Danielle Miles, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. He is pre-deceased by his father Robert Melvin.
Derek was born in Framingham on June 24, 1982. He was raised in Hudson, attended Hudson High School and Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School. A talented tradesman, Derek began his lifelong career with his family business M&M Roofing, which he successfully owned and operated with his father for many years. He continued working and was currently employed with several area roofing contractors throughout Worcester County. Derek cherished his children and was most proud of being a father to Kiana and Derek. He enjoyed the hobbies of fishing, archery, and billiards and was a friend always willing to help another in need.
