Clinton-G. Elizabeth (Whalen) McGown, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2017. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Edward R. McGown, who died in 2008. She is survived by her children & their spouses, Susan Thompson & Richard of Derry, NH; Edward “Russ” McGown, Jr. & Jane of Brewster; Nancy Wood & Michael of Ellicott City, MD; Michael McGown & Shannon of Milford, NH; Joan Kramer & Alfred of Virginia Beach, VA; Thomas A. McGown of Worcester; and Eric McGown & Maggie of Cornelius, NC. She leaves her brother James Whalen of Wildomar, CA; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She is pre-deceased by two brothers, Thomas and William Whalen.
Elizabeth was born, raised and educated in Newton, daughter of the late William & Gertrude (O’Toole) Whalen. She studied to become a nurses aide and worked as the Emergency Room receptionist at the Clinton Hospital for 32 years until retiring. She was a woman of great faith and member of St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish in Clinton. She loved to dance and held membership with the Silver Slippers. Mrs. McGown enjoyed summer trips to the beach and most cherished time spent in the company of loving family. Funeral services are to be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 4 until 7PM. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elizabeth McGown to Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
