Clinton-Catherine M. “Caddy” Murphy, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Oakdale Nursing Center in West Boylston on Thursday, March 30, 2017. She is survived by her siblings, Teresa O’Malley & husband Walter; Agnes Murphy; and Dorothea Hohl, all of Clinton; sisters-in-law, Joan Murphy of Worcester; and Jeannette Murphy of Marlborough; numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She is pre-deceased by siblings Helen Coke, Mary Thulin, Grace, Bartholomew, John, George, and Francis Murphy.
Catherine was born in Clinton to the late Bartholomew & Ellen (O’Malley) Murphy. She graduated from the Clinton High School, Class of 1951, and obtained her degree from the Leominster Hospital School of Nursing. Caddy enlisted to proudly serve our nation as a Registered Nurse in the United States Navy, having been stationed in Medical Centers around the globe, including Guam, Japan, and throughout the United States, before ultimately retiring from military service as a Lieutenant Commander. Prior to and following her military career, Caddy worked for several area hospitals including Clinton Hospital and Memorial Hospital in Worcester, and was fortunate to be able to provide the personal care for her mother in her final years at home. Caddy enjoyed reading, physical fitness, and oil painting. She was a woman of great faith and lifelong member of St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish in Clinton. The Murphy family wishes to express their gratitude for the care and compassion of the neighbors and staff of the Corcoran House in Clinton, where Caddy and her sister Aggie have resided for the past 7 years. Funeral services are to be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow with United States Navy Military Honors at St. John’s Cemetery in Lancaster. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 5 until 7PM.
