Obituary for Dorothy Elizabeth Sheerin (Sellar)

Dorothy Elizabeth Sheerin (Sellar)
Clinton- Dorothy Elizabeth (Sellar) Sheerin, 84, passed away peacefully at River Terrace Healthcare on Sunday, January 29, 2017. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert F. Sheerin. She leaves her children, Dr. Peter L. Sheerin & wife Nancy of Beverly Hills, CA; and Kathleen Callahan, with whom she lived, of Clinton, grandchildren Erica Sheerin, Justin Callahan, and Todd Sheerin, brother-in-law James Boatright of VA, several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She is pre-deceased by her sister Gloria Boatright. Dorothy was born in Augusta, Maine to the late William & Elizabeth (Harris) Sellar. She was a graduate of Cony High School in Augusta and Colby College in Waterville, Maine. In addition to raising a family, Dorothy enjoyed a career as an English teacher and librarian, later working as a dental assistant and receptionist. She loved gardening and had a voluminous knowledge of botany. There wasn't a plant whose name she didn't know. Dorothy enjoyed walks with her husband and family as well as watching the birds which visited feeders on her porch. She was an accomplished baker and cook that always had family members enjoying the aromas from her kitchen. Dorothy had a lifelong love and talent for music. She performed and traveled as a performer while in high school and college, later enjoying singing along to many songs as she played piano. Her most cherished time, however, was spent in the company of her husband, children, and grandchildren. She will forever be remembered as the loving matriarch of her family. Funeral Services will be held privately under the direction of the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. Online condolences may be placed at www.philbincomeaufh.com
