Cremation

The Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home offers a variety of service options with cremation.  To begin, we would like to explain that cremation is not a form of final disposition, rather it is a process of reducing the human body to bone fragments through intense heat.  The bone fragments are later pulverized into smaller particles similar to ash.  The cremated remains are next transferred into a suitable container for final disposition which incldes burial, scattering on land or at sea, or home retention.
It is a common misunderstanding that cremated remains cannot be present for a service held in a church, the funeral home, or at an alternate location of a memorial service.  Our top of the line equipment allows for an urn to be carried similar to a casket with pallbearers serving the distinguished honors formerly allowed with burials only.  We encourage families to personalize services with us through their participation and imaginable wishes.  The numerous cremation options may be further explained, but below are a list of typical guidelines for cremation service options.

Direct Cremation-A cremation with no services to be held.   Cremated remains would either being returned to the family for home retention, arranged for burial, or scattering on land or at sea

Calling Hours followed by Cremation-Public or private calling hours would be held with an open casket to allow family and friends the opportunity to view the body and pay respect to the deceased and family.  Following calling hours, a cremation would take place and a final disposition would be decided upon

Traditional Funeral Service Followed by Cremation-Public or private calling hours and/or funeral service concluding in the church or funeral home with cremation to follow

Cremation followed by Services-Cremation takes place prior to services with or without urn present for ceremony in church, funeral home, graveside, or alternate location
